The Summer Deal by Jill Shalvis

Wildstone #5

The Summer Deal by Jill ShalvisFrom New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis comes a friends-to-frenemies-to-sisters story… And then add in a love story (okay, two love stories). Shake. Stir. Read on a lazy summer day at the beach.

Brynn Turner desperately wishes she had it together, but her personal life is like a ping-pong match that’s left her scared and hurt after so many attempts to get it right. In search of a place to lick her wounds and get a fresh start, she heads back home to Wildstone.

And then there’s Kinsey Davis, who after battling serious health issues her entire twenty-nine years of life, is tired of hoping for . . . well, anything. She’s fierce, tough, and pretty much the opposite of Brynn except for one thing: they’re half-sisters. Kinsey is keeping this bombshell, and a few others as well. Long time frenemies from summer camp, there’s no way she’s going to tell Brynn they’re related.

But then Brynn runs into Kinsey’s lifelong best friend, Eli, renewing a childhood crush. He’s still easy-going and funny and sexy as hell. When he gets her to agree to a summer-time deal to trust him to do right by her, no matter what, she never dreams it’ll result in finding a piece of herself she didn’t even know was missing. She could have a sister, love, and a future―if she can only learn to let go of the past.

As the long days of summer wind down, the three of them must discover if forgiveness is enough to grasp the unconditional love that’s right in front of them.

Book Review

JILL SHALVIS
The Summer Deal
WILDSTONE
5 out of 5 stars

The Summer Deal is the fifth book in author Jill Shalvis’s Wildstone series and deals with themes of friendship, hope, fear, forgiveness, secrets, love, and family, both the kind you are born into and the kind you find. Brynn discovers this fact when she comes home to Wildstone, broken, disappointed, and scared to fail again. Kinsey discovers this when Brynn returns to town and forces her to confront the things—and feelings—she tried so hard to keep buried. And though they do not have an easy road to travel, they do travel it and they do discover things about themselves—and each other—that they failed to see in their rocky, sometimes contentious past.

Eli is a good fit in this story. Steady, loyal, and full of equal amounts of hope and fear. He is a constant source of friendship for Kinsey, and a promise of a hopeful future for Brynn. Such a great connector for the story. Absolutely loved his character and felt for his position throughout the book.

Brynn and Kinsey were the perfect counterpoint to each other. Both the truth teller and the secret keeper. Stubborn, prideful, and so full of caring they scared themselves into believing they were not capable of doing it right. Wonderful, fascinating characters who bickered but also extended the rope enough to pull each other back when they started to fall. Excellent family and friendship dynamic.

A beautiful tale filled with family, friendship, love, and forgiveness, The Summer Deal is a must read for Jill Shalvis and contemporary romance fans. Wonderful characters, great storyline, and the perfect message for learning how to love someone who doesn’t always make it easy.
