The Husband Situation by Naima Simone ~ Book Review

THE HUSBAND SITUATION

FROM VEGAS TO ROSEBEND

It is no secret that I am a massive fan of Naima Simone’s work. I’ve loved every single story that I’ve read of hers over the years and it’s led to her becoming one of my favorite auto-buy authors.

Well, my book-loving friends, this bestselling author has released a new book, aptly titled, The Husband Situation. The Husband Situation is another novella in Simone’s popular Rose Bend series and features Brooklyn Hayes and Patrick King, which is Brooklyn’s best friend, current employee, her sister’s ex, and…apparently, her drunken wedding in Vegas husband.

Let’s dive in and talk about this little reading adventure, shall we?

When you marry your sister’s ex in Vegas, you’re in for a messy trip home…

When marketing exec Brooklyn Hayes wakes up in Vegas after a corporate team-building trip, she’s expecting the hangover. The ring on her finger, not so much. And nothing could have prepared her for the sight of her best friend—her sister’s ex—right there beside her. She has no idea how this happened, but the one thing she knows for sure is that no one from their nosy, close-knit hometown of Rose Bend can find out!

Graphic designer Patrick King is used to keeping secrets—starting with his crush on his ex’s sister. Since he doesn’t remember much about how they ended up married or the night they apparently spent together, it shouldn’t be hard for him to keep their elopement a secret too.

But the more time they spend together trying to figure out what to do, all while keeping their secret from the whole town, the more uncertain they become about ending their marriage. While their impromptu nuptials might’ve been a mistake, the growing love between them doesn’t feel like a mix-up. They’ll need a miracle to make it through without slipping up…or falling.

BOOK REVIEW

Believe me, Brookie. If I were giving you orders, you’d know it. And like it.”

This was a fun romance read. As I’ve stated in the past, Naima Simone is one of my favorite auto-buy authors because I absolutely adore her characterization and storytelling abilities. Not to mention, I am in love with the entirety of the Rose Bend series. I have no idea how Simone does it, but each book has been such a good read, and they always manage to make me anxiously await the next new Rose Bend series release.

In this story, we have Brooklyn Hayes, a bit of a workaholic who has given up on looking for love, and Patrick King, her best friend, current employee, and her sister’s ex all rolled up into one man. He also happens to be the man she drunk married while on a Vegas work retreat—yep, cue the freak out here, friends.

Obviously, Brooklyn and Patrick want different things. Brooklyn wants out while Patrick wants her to notice him, not as her best friend but as a man who cares about her and wants to be with her without all the secrecy. Maybe it’s a little complicated, but he’s willing to fight for it. But Brooklyn has to recognize her own feelings first and stop letting other people’s opinions cloud what she truly wants.

I enjoyed this story a lot. Maybe it didn’t quite reach the love I had for Trouble for Hire or The Love List, two previously released Rose Bend novella’s, but it was still a really great read with fun tropes and characters. And it still serves to make me even more anxious to buy and read the next full-length Rose Bend novel, The Single Dad Project, releasing Tuesday (February 20, 2024).

RATING: 4 out of 5 stars

Side Note: I actually read this novella on release day, but due to work and crazy life stuff, I wasn’t able to sit down and write my post until today. My apologies for not having it up sooner.
