One more game. And this time, there are no rules…
After a life of pool hustling and living on the wrong side of the law, Ruby Elliott is living on the straight and narrow with sexy-as-all-hell NYPD detective, Troy Bennett. Now the only trouble Ruby has with the law is the naughty kind, pinned against the wall by Troy’s strict and spectacularly hard body. Obeying his every command. Both of them losing themselves in a lust that borders on obsession…
But then her father returns with an offer she can’t refuse: one last hustle in exchange for information. Information she’d die to have. As the pieces and the players of the game reveal themselves, Troy feels the fine edges of his control slipping—control he can’t channel without hurting Ruby. The stakes are high, and the risk higher. Because losing this final game could cost more than Ruby’s heart…it might cost her life.
QUOTE OF NOTE
“What would you like to hear? That my girlfriend has become my obsession? That I can’t think past getting inside her? Every. Single. Hour.”
~ Troy Bennett, Riskier Business ~
Riskier Business is the second prequel book in Tessa Bailey’s Crossing the Line series with Entangled Select, a spin-off from her Line of Duty series for Entangled’s Brazen line. At 140 pages, the book is a short read, but boy, does it packs a punch.
The thing I love most about Tessa Bailey’s books is that they’re always extremely well-written, and the characters are both intriguing and real. Her stories draw you into the world she’s created and every single one is entertaining, blazing-hot, and absolutely unforgettable. This book is no different.
In Riskier Business, Ruby’s father shows back up with a request for Ruby to play in a match for him. Her agreement to play, despite knowing she can’t trust anything her father says, puts a strain on her relationship with Troy.
“God, I-I can’t think around you. I’ve got so much to process, so much to think about, and you take up all the air.”
~ Ruby Elliot, Riskier Business ~
Ruby didn’t realize her agreement to play pool again would place both her and Troy in so much danger, but it does, and while Troy does everything he can to get them out of it, the real game and its players have already been set in motion.
This was an excellent read. Short, hot, and the perfect story to lead into the longer Crossing the Line series books because this gives us a deeper look into who Ruby and Troy are now, as well as what makes them both tick. Not to mention we get a little more information about Bowen in this book, and I’m thoroughly intrigued by his character.
If you love hot romance stories with a bit of action, a bit of humor, and a whole lot of dirty-talk, Riskier Business is an amazing read, and a story I highly recommend checking out. Believe me, Ruby and Troy are more than worth it.
