I received an advanced reading copy (ARC) of this book from the publisher. The receipt of this ARC did not influence my choice to review the book on this site. It also did not influence how I felt about the book or its characters, storyline, and overall feel. The opinions expressed in this review are my own. As such, they only deal with what is written on the pages of the book and how what is written and otherwise presented made me feel during and after my reading of the book.

In addition to receiving an ARC of this book, I also bought my own digital copy through Amazon.

Watching Over You is the third book in Lori Foster’s The Mckenzies of Ridge Trail series with HQN. And though, I enjoyed this read overall, I did have trouble with some elements in the story. For instance, Madison is depicted as a strong, badass heroine, but other than a few brief instances, we rarely see her being a strong, badass heroine. While she is unmatched on the tech front, the physical front fell a bit short in my eyes, despite the fact that the author presented evidence of her training with her brothers for any situation she might find herself in.

Another issue I had with this book is that, while Madison isn’t shy about going after what she wants, she did come across as a bit too pushy. Too much focus was on the idea of her and Crosby being physical, even though this was a major slow burn romance. While the two did build an emotional connection with each other, it never felt as if it went as deep as it could have gone. To me, the story could have used a little more internal conflict rather than external conflict, which pains me to say because Lori Foster is one of my all-time favorites.

Overall, I did enjoy this read. It is well-written, with a great supporting cast, and though I had a few problems with the two leads, I did like them, and I did root for them to get together. At a later date, I may go back and reread this, just to fully cement why it didn’t quite gel for me like the author’s other works have. Because while I liked it, I didn’t love it, and that’s a bit of a surprise for me where this particular author is concerned.
