Book Summary

LOVE ISN’T ALWAYS WHAT IT SEEMS.

Justin Reeve Netherwood, Earl of Kempthorn—a.k.a. Thorn—has never cared much for his neighbor’s daughter. But his twin brother, Gideon, befriended the wild, reckless, and wholly inappropriate Miss Olivia Lydall in youth, and two have been close ever since. So when Olivia finds herself in a state of romantic conflict and seeks out Gideon for advice, he’s only too pleased to oblige. Only problem: The man Olivia is speaking to is Thorn. And now it’s too late for him to tell Olivia the truth…

Thorn always believed that Olivia was too smitten with Gideon for her own good. So what’s the harm in steering her away from him? But Thorn’s charade turns out to be anything but harmless once he begins to see Olivia for who she really is: A woman full of spirit and passion…and someone he can’t live without. But how can Thorn claim Olivia’s heart when their deepening connection—and burning desire—is built on lies and deceit?

My Thoughts

*ARC provided by Publisher*

Waiting for an Earl Like You is a fast-paced, well-written, and vastly entertaining historical romance.  I loved getting to know Olivia, Thorn, and Gideon, and I enjoyed their interactions in this story.

Thorn and Gideon are identical twin brothers who are a little bit estranged when the story starts, not  as close as they once were. They grew up as friends as well as brothers but as they grew older, Gideon grew resentful of Thorn’s status as the heir and left town, breaking the bond the brothers once shared.

Now that Gideon has returned, Thorn is determined to make him stay, and to keep him away from Olivia and the close bond they also used to share. Thorn tells himself it isn’t jealousy he feels, and yet, he finds himself pretending to be her brother (or not correcting her assumption he is his brother) to gain her confidence and discover his brother’s secrets. But it’s through spending more time with Olivia, that Thorn becomes both concerned for and enamored with her.

Captivating, engaging, and humorous, Waiting for an Earl Like You by Alexandra Hawkins is a delightful and entertaining regency romance that I couldn’t stop reading. I loved the dashing Earl of  Kempthorn and the charming, passionate Miss Olivia Lydall. Their chemistry was well developed and showcased, and their romance intense and surprising. An overall great historical romance read!
