Pursuit of the Truth by KD Richards (Review)

PURSUIT OF THE TRUTH

CRIME FRIDAY

When it comes to crime, it often comes down to the pursuit of the truth. What actually happened, who actually did it, and why. These questions must be answered to fully understand the crime that took place, though they not always are. Sometimes we may know what happened and who did it, but not know why, and because the person who did it may be dead or missing and the victim may be dead, missing, or otherwise incapacitated, that why is something that may never be discovered. In fiction, we often see a lot of these things take place, though the why is usually, eventually, uncovered somewhere within the story, whether that be in the first book, in a sequel, or in another follow up book.

Why is it so important to know what motivated a criminal to commit a crime? To know why is to understand what led a person to do what they did. And to know that, can sometimes mean the difference between saving another life, and losing one.

Crime fiction is often based, at least in part, on some kind of real life event, whether that be the crime, the criminal, or the law enforcement techniques. Real people do real things, sometimes bad things, and other people, good people, do their best to bring those people who do bad things to justice. This is the very basis for the pursuit of the truth, and the reason why it is so important in our society…and in our fiction reads.

DEANNA’S THOUGHTS

Nadia Shelton is the current CEO and sole owner of Shelton Hotels, having inherited the chain after her brother died in a car accident. When strange things start happening, Nadia is convinced she is being paranoid, while also taking note of things that don’t quite add up. Then she’s injured in a potentially fatal accident, and it sends a host of red flags up for Ryan West, security expert, and the man who both wants Nadia and fears giving into the desire he feels for her.

Right from the start, the attraction between these two is clear. They like each other, though they each try their best not to show it. And that’s what makes this book such a fun, exciting read. Not only do the two main characters share a palpable chemistry, but there is a reason they try to deny it, and a reason they always seem to fail at it. Combine that chemistry with a sense of danger and an innate desire to protect and you have the setup for a great mystery and suspense read.

For a brief moment, he thought he saw the desire he felt reflected in her brown eyes before she looked away.

Pursuit of the Truth is a fast-paced read. The romance, the mystery, the suspense, all work in tandem to create a fully immersive and entertaining romance. The characters have real problems and real feelings, and easily bring story events to life in a way that allows readers to root for the characters and experience the journey they go on together. Sexual tension, passion, danger, love, this story has it all, and the author skillfully delivers it in a memorable way. This story excites readers and whets their appetites for the future books and characters to come.

Ryan’s eyes locked onto hers again.

“You deserve a man so in love with you he burns with it.”

If you’re looking for a new Intrigue read, I highly recommend giving this debut book and author a shot. It was a fun, thrilling read and has made me more than a little anxious to read book two.
