Star-Crossed Assistant by Sarah Deeham ~ Review
STAR-CROSSED ASSISTANT
A STEAMY, SLOW BURN, BOSS-ASSISTANT ROMANCE

Star-Crossed Assistant by Sarah Deeham is the fourth book in the author’s Falling for Famous series, but the first book of the series I have read. It won’t be the last. This was such a fun, slow-burn, forced proximity, workplace romance. But with the added caveat of Celebrity life thrown in. As you can imagine, things become a wee bit complicated for the two leads, and I loved every single second of it. So, let’s talk about it, shall we?
MY THOUGHTS
When I started reading Star-Crossed Assistant, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’d never picked up a book by this author before, but the writing immediately pulled me in, and the characters kept me glued to the page.
I absolutely adored Emma and Sebastian. They were opposites in so many ways, and yet, they fit together so well at the same time. There was chemistry, and emotional depth, and spice, though the spice came later since this was a slow to burn romance. But man, the slow burn really worked here. It kept the tension up, and it was a great choice for this couple, because there was so much more to explore in terms of who they were and what they wanted.
Could he ever be interested in the broken mess of a girl I once was as much as the put-together version of me now? ~ Emma Reynolds
Emma has been Sebastian’s assistant for a few years when the story starts, but she’s grown tired of his “fires” and his lack of boundaries. She wants to have more of a life, more a balance, but isn’t quite sure how to go about it. Or she isn’t until he pushes her too far by ruining the end of an important day for her.
Of course, Sebastian didn’t mean to ruin her day, and though he doesn’t explain his reasoning for doing what he did—at least not until later. He does make it clear to her that he is sorry for upsetting her, though, which is nice but also comes a little late for her.
Sebastian cares a lot about Emma, and it shows in everything he does, though not always in what he says because he plays things pretty close to the chest. But when she tells him she quits, he pulls out all the stops to keep her in his life. Yet he doesn’t fully understand how much she needs a change . . . well, he doesn’t until he’s practically hit over the head with the evidence of it.
The tabloids have named me child star, teen heartthrob, bad boy of Hollywood, and now, leading man. I’m all of them and none of them. They’re just broken reflections in a funhouse mirror. ~ Sebastian Blake
You see, Sebastian is what you would call a lovable rascal. He’s rebel in a lot of ways, but he’s also doing his best to be better. He knows he needs to repair the damage he’s done to his career and reputation, and Emma has been a large part of that realization journey. She’s changed him, but he doesn’t realize quite how much until he’s on the verge of losing her for good.
Emma is a strong, intelligent woman, and a true lifeline for Sebastian. She makes his life better just by being in it, but the fact that he pays her to keep him in line and organized makes things a bit tricky. Lucky for Sebastian, he wakes up just in the nick of time.
Star-Crossed Assistant is a fun, delightful romance read filled with some amazing characters and even more engrossing scenes. I adored the heck out of it and will be reading more of this author’s work in the future because of it.

I quit.
After years as movie star Sebastian Blake’s personal assistant, I’ve had enough. My infuriating, impossible, and ridiculously hot boss may pay well, but it’s hard to have a life when I’m at his beck and call twenty-four seven. It’s time to forget any inconvenient feelings for him and finally go after my own dreams.
So I quit. I figure Sebastian won’t care.
Except he’s not letting me leave. I somehow go from personal assistant to fake fiancée. And sharing—only one bed—with my boss.
I need her. Nobody else.
Emma may not realize it, but she’s more than just my assistant. She’s a sarcastic overachiever who doesn’t let me get away with anything. And she’s way too distracting in her prim little skirts. But I can’t imagine my life without her.
When she suddenly quits, my entire world rearranges. She keeps talking about boundaries. But now we're fake engaged. And all I want is to keep her close forever.
