Summary

All work and no play makes Adeline Kendrick a dull girl, so when she heads to a casino resort for a friend’s bachelorette weekend, she’s ready to have a good time. Until she runs into Brendan Quinn, professional fighter and the one who got away—the one her family drove away—and things take a turn for the interesting.

Running into his ex won’t shake Brendan. Even if it brings up the old pain of loving her when she was only slumming. Even if she looks really good. In fact, what better way to get over the past than to take advantage of the still-sizzling chemistry running hot between them? He’s there to win an MMA fight, but he won’t say no to a little physical relief of a different kind.

But when the weekend is over, Adeline isn’t ready to give up her second chance that easily. Brendan is still the one for her, no matter what her family thinks. Now, if only she can convince him of that…

My Thoughts

*ARC provided by Publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review*

I’m a longtime reader of Shannon Stacey and I’m always so excited to read a new book from her, especially when one of the themes is a second chance reunion romance. It’s one of my favorite romance stories to read and it’s something Shannon Stacey excels at really well.

In A Fighting Chance, Adeline Kendrick comes face to face with the guy who broke her heart six years ago, MMA fighter, Brendan Quinn, who is in town for his next fight. Del wants answers for their breakup so she agrees to have coffee with Brendan and then finds herself reluctant to say goodbye afterward. An easy thing to understand, given the unresolved feelings still simmering between them.

Del and Brendan were easy to like and relate to, and their love story both believable and plausible. Brendan thought he did the right thing in walking away from Del, because in his mind she deserved better, but his walking away didn’t mean he stopped caring about her or wanting her. It also didn’t stop Del from loving him despite the hurt he caused her.

I really enjoyed this story. It was a wonderful, well-written, fast-paced romance that swept me up and made me smile. It was so effortless to get lost in this story and enjoy the love blossoming between the characters because the writing and the characterization itself felt natural and rang true for both Del and Brendan.

If you’re looking for a fantastic, well-written second chance romance novella, grab a copy of A Fighting Chance by Shannon Stacey. It’s a sweet and sexy love story I thoroughly enjoyed reading.

Take Note Readers: This novella ends a little early in page count because there is an extremely generous extended sneak peek of Fully Ignited, book three in Shannon Stacey’s Boston Fire series, after A Fighting Chance ends. The two books aren’t connected, though, as A Fighting Chance is a standalone book.

You can read the summary of Fully Ignited on Goodreads here and find out more about Heat Exchange and Controlled Burn, books one and two of the Boston Fire series, here and here .  You can also read my review of Heat Exchange here and my review of Controlled Burn here.
