20 Fall Reads for 2024

A little something for everyone

 

In this post, I discuss 30 fall reads for 2024. These are books that I want to read and/or have requested/received an ARC to read.

Some of these reads I heard about through the authors on their social media pages, but others I discovered through various  influencers on BookTok, Bookstagram, or BookTube. Something about them–cover, blurb, author/reader/influencer excitement–caught my attention and made me want to check them out, and that’s why they are listed here. If they are a new to me author with previous books released in a series, you can bet I’ve already downloaded previous books and started reading them–or will before the new book releases.

Deanna’s Thoughts: This series is one of my favorites. I own them all in print and absolutely cannot wait to read this first book by Don Bentley. I will be getting my copy on release day and devouring it. Super stoked to find out how Mitch Rapp handles this newest threat.

Deanna’s Thoughts: I have an ARC of this one and it sounds super interesting. I love that it combines historical with dark fantasy.

 

THE HAUNTING OF MOSCOW HOUSE by Olesya Salinkova Gilmore

It is the summer of 1921, and a group of Bolsheviks have taken over Irina and Lili Goliteva’s ancestral home in Moscow, a stately mansion falling into disrepair and decay. The remaining members of their family are ordered to move into the cramped attic, while the officials take over an entire wing of grand rooms downstairs. The sisters understand it is the way of things and know they must forget their noble upbringing to make their way in this new Soviet Russia. But the house begins to whisper of a traumatic past not as dead as they thought.

Eager to escape it and their unwelcome new landlords, Irina and Lili find jobs with the recently arrived American Relief Administration, meant to ease the post-revolutionary famine in Russia. For the sisters, the ARA provides much-needed food and employment, as well as a chance for sensible Irina to help those less fortunate and artistic Lili to express herself for a good cause. It might just lead them to love, too.

But at home, the spirits of their deceased family awaken, desperate to impart what really happened to them during the Revolution. Soon one of the officials living in the house is found dead. Was his death caused by something supernatural, or by someone all too human? And are Irina and Lili and their family next? Only unearthing the frightening secrets of Moscow House will reveal all. But this means the sisters must dig deep into a past no one in Russia except the dead are allowed to remember.

Deanna’s Thoughts: A gothic horror set in 1921 Russia? Color me intrigued. I have an ARC of this and I can’t wait to get to it!

 

PLAYED by Naima Simone

Being a firefighter isn’t easy. Especially for a Black woman. Working with family helps a little. But when somebody from your company doesn’t come back from a call, it’s brutal—as in, “How’m I supposed to go on?” brutal.

And one death took me to a really dark place.

A year later, I’m at the Pirates’ hockey training facility. Just another day on the job. Until I find a charred journal. I look inside for the owner’s name, but the words on the page punch me in the gut. It’s like reading my own thoughts. Reliving my own pain.

The journal belongs to Solomon Young, left-winger for the Pirates—a father and widower. When I return it, I’m racked with guilt for the invasion of privacy. The look Solomon gives me is cold as ice.

But damn if that man isn’t hot as hell.

Now he’s stuck in my brain. And fate seems intent on making us face off.

Deanna’s Thoughts: I have made no secret of my love for Naima Simone’s books over the years, so as you can imagine, I am ALL OVER an ARC of this one. I am reading it now and LOVING IT. (Side note: I got to meet Naima last weekend at a KC book signing, after years of conversing online, and am super thrilled to report she is just as lovely and amazing in person as she is online!).

 

ZETAS TILL WE DIE by Amber and Danielle Brown

Psychological Thriller

It’s been ten years since Priscilla and her Zeta Phi Zeta sorority sisters graduated college. Ten years since they were all in the same room together. Ten years since one of them died. And now Lupe’s killer has been released from prison on a technicality, days before their ten-year reunion.

When one of them doesn’t return home after the party, Priscilla begins to realize that there might be more to Lupe’s murder and that someone is out for blood. With the murderer in their midst circling closer and closer, the Zetas are forced to confront what really happened the night Lupe died—and the secrets each of them swore to keep.

Deanna’s Thoughts: I have an ARC of this book as well and I’m super intrigued by the blurb for it. I love a good psychological thriller and it’s been a minute since I read one. This fall seems like the perfect time to get back into it!

 

CAN’T HELP FALLING IN LOVE by Sophie Sullivan

Contemporary Romance – Rom-Com

Now she’s trying to make ends meet while putting herself through school and caring for her grieving mother. As Lexi gets a taste of Will’s glamorous world and the pair keeps up the pretense of their fake engagement for the press, they decide to see where a more casual relationship takes them out of the spotlight. And amid apple picking in comfy flannels, outdoor breweries in the crisp air, and fun Halloween preparations, Lexi starts to realize the scariest part of the season might just be taking a chance on love.

Deanna’s Thoughts: I have an ARC of this one, too. I am excited to read it. I love a good fake engagement story and this one looks to be hella fun.

 

TRULY MADLY DEEPLY by L.J. Shen

Deanna’s Thoughts: I love a good forbidden love romance and when you combine it with sister’s best friend, I am even more inclined to read it. I do not have an ARC of this one but I am looking forward to reading it when it releases!

Deanna’s Thoughts: I first saw mention of this book on Booktube and since I love a good Single dad and nanny story, I put it on my list to check out for fall. I also picked up the first book on my Kindle so I will let you know how I like it as I will be reading it soon.

 

IN THE DETAILS by Julia Wolf

Deanna’s Thoughts: Okay, I fully admit it. This one went on the list because of the cover and the tropes. Single parents one night stand? Hell yeah. Let me read that. It just sounds like some messy, complicated fun and I am in the mood for that this fall! Give me all the angsty, messy goodness. And the sexy times, too, okay? We can’t skimp on the sexy times.

 

THE LIES WE CONJURE by Sarah Henning

YA Supernatural Thriller

Deanna’s Thoughts: I have an ARC of this one and looking forward to reading it. The book summary intrigues the hell out of me, and come on, imposter witches stuck in a manor with only three days to solve some riddles and a murder? Sign me up!

 

UNDENIABLY INFATUATED by J. Saman

Deanna’s Thoughts: It has been a minute since I read a J. Saman book and this one seems like a great one to pick up. I requested an ARC of this and while I don’t know if I’ll get it, the book is on my fall reading radar because, again, I love me some forbidden love romance. And add in a brother’s ex-girlfriend and forced proximity trope? Yep, I wanna read it.

Deanna’s Thoughts: I do have an ARC of this one and I cannot wait to get to it. Forced to marry and harboring dark secrets–with magic? Yeah, I’m down for this one. 

 

LOVE ME DANGEROUS by Dakota Davies

Deanna’s Thoughts: I saw this one on Booktube as well and had to add it to my list. While I don’t read a ton of small town romance with suspense this days, I do enjoy them and it’s been a bit too long since I read one now. I love the cover for this one, which is what first caught my eye because for some inexplicable reason, it reminds me of the movie Always with Richard Dryfuss and Holly Hunter (I do not know why. It just has that feel to me). But yeah, it caught my eye and then the summary pulled me in. I wanna know what happens and how things work out. I have requested an ARC of this but I don’t know if I’ll get it. Either way, I plan to read it.

 

BEG FOR ME by J.T. Geissinger

Dark Romance

Deanna’s Thoughts: I requested an ARC for this one. I mentioned I was in the mood for some angsty, messy, goodness, right? I have not read the first two books in this series but I have them on my kindle to do so before this book comes out. I adore a morally gray hero and I love me some good spicy bedroom scenes, too, so no way this book wasn’t making my list for fall.

 

THE HOUSE AT WATCH HILL by Karen Marie Moning

Gothic Romance – Magic

Deanna’s Thoughts: I received an email about this book from the Publisher. I think I am getting an ARC of it soon. Either way, it definitely belongs on my fall reads list. I love a gothic romance as it always reminds me of my love for Wuthering Heights and add in the fact this book takes places in Louisana–a state I lived in as a kid–and I will always want to read it.

 

I’LL BE WAITING by Kelley Armstrong

Ghost Fiction – Horror

Nicola Laughton never expected to see adulthood, being diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis as a child. Then medical advances let her live into her thirties and she met Anton, who taught her to dream of a future… together. Deanna’s Thoughts: I have an ARC of this book and I’m excited to read it. I enjoy this author’s books a lot and I love a good ghost fiction story, so…I’m excited to get to it. From the blurb, it sounds like all kinds of fun, too.

 

TEMPTING THE TIGHT END by Lisa Suzanne

Deanna’s Thoughts: I requested an ARC of this one, but I have no idea if I will get it as I haven’t read the first two books in the series yet. But I am a massive football fan–I live in Chief’s Kingdom while also being a born and bred Okie (Boomer Sooner, baby!), so anytime I see a football romance, I am checking it out. This one is a coach’s daughter and a tight end story and it sounds like it might be all kinds of messy fun–I am here for it! 

 

MR. HEARTBREAKER by Piper Rayne

Sports Romance – Hockey

I made a deal with my brother a long time ago to never date his teammates.

Technically, Rowan Landry, the hot as hell center for the Chicago Falcons, is no longer my brother’s teammate. Or his best friend. Their college days are long behind them, and they barely talk now.

Also, I’m not dating him—we’re just sleeping together. There’s a difference.

Except there’s not a lot of sleeping going on, and neither one of us wants to stop what we’re doing.

It’s all fun and games until my brother is traded to the Falcons, because Rowan doesn’t know I’m the new goalie’s little sister. Oops.

Deanna’s Thoughts: I *think* I requested an ARC of this one. I love hockey romances and this one sounds amazing to me. I mean, brother’s ex-teamate and best friend? Yeah, it has messy fun all over it!

King Renwick rules the rival kingdom of Infernis, the land of the dead. When Oralia flees the palace of Aethera after her power is let loose with deadly results, he recognizes her potential as a weapon and aids her escape.

Deanna’s Thoughts: I requested an ARC of this one and have no idea if I will get it or not but I am hoping that I do. This is a debut author who cut her teeth writing Dramione fanfic–which I also wrote at one time in the past–so I am all kinds of here for it, especially since this one is supposed to be loosely inspired by the pairing. Already the blurb pulled me so it’s on my fall reads list regardless of whether I get to read it before release day or after.
