TRUTH OR DARREN

A GAMES WE PLAY IN GRANVILLE NOVEL

Hello, dear readers! We are back today with another book review, this time for Truth or Darren by D J Jamison. Truth or Darren is the second full-length book in the author’s Games We Play in Granville series and features the troublemaking playboy of the group, a straight man who is perhaps a bit misunderstood, and the brother of his ex, who is not straight and tempts him far more than he should given his straight status.

BOOK REVIEW

I really liked Truth or Darren. I wasn’t sure how it was going to go given how much of a player Darren is in the previous books and how adamant of a straight man he is, but his chemistry with Linc was pretty evident right from the start of this one. And I love that he didn’t react the way I thought he would, given his player status, but instead pretty much went with the flow and followed his growing attraction toward Linc.

While Linc was doing his best to keep his distance due to his Darren’s straight man status and the fact that Darren dated his sister and “broke” her heart, it was quite obvious how attracted he was to Darren. I really love that Darren was the one who pursued the attraction with Linc because I think it allowed Linc the time to come to terms with his own feelings and to recognize that there was more to Darren than he let other people see. It also gave Darren the chance to realize Linc isn’t who he thought he was either and that maybe he had misjudged the rich kid whose family looked so down on him all these years.

I loved Darren’s dirty talking in this, but I do feel like the steam level could’ve been hotter than it was in the second half of the book. I get that the author was showing more of the normalness of their lives and everything, but when Darren started calling Linc princess and upping his dominant streak a bit, it came with certain reader expectations that weren’t quite met. I also think the conflict with Linc’s sister could’ve been deepened or changed up a bit, because it didn’t quite resonate since she was already in a relationship that revealed her preferences and pretty much made her prior “relationship” with Darren less of a factor than it was supposed to be given the dislike her family had for him.

Overall, I loved this read and despite the few issues that I had with it, it was a book I couldn’t put down. I loved the chemistry between the characters, the quirky, zany residents, and the tight-knit and supportive friend group around the guys. It made for such a nice week-night escape read. Highly recommend checking it out.

What happens when my big mouth writes a check it can't cash while taunting my ex's brother in a game of Truth or Dare? I end up with his tongue in my mouth. In my very straight, totally uninterested mouth.

While I don't feel anything.

Nothing at all.

In fact, I barely noticed.

So, why can't I stop thinking about it?
