Top 5 Hottest Reads by Naima Simone
GUEST POST
One of the first hot books I remember reading was The Hawk and the Dove by Virginia Henley when I was about fourteen. Obviously, my mom had no idea—even though it was her book. I tease her all the time now about how she was slipping on the parental guidance thing back then. *snicker* Anyway, I was enraptured by the story of Sara
Bishop turned Sabre Wild who led her husband—who had married her by proxy—on a merry chase to win her favor and *cough* charms. And when the two of them got together? Whoa. I think this book started my love of passionate, over the top, hot affairs of the heart and body. Thank you very much, Ms. Henley. Although, I think my parents would point at you and say, “This is your fault!” LOL!
The Hawk and the Dove might’ve been my first hot book, but not my last. I don’t know if you can tell, but I loooooooove them. For me, it’s not just about the sex—the erotic, graphic, sweaty, dirty, sometimes illicit, all the time sex-aay sex—but it’s also about the emotion, the sharing, the complications, the heart ache, growth, healing and, yes, love. The best sexy romances get you all hot-and-bothered while they yank at your heart and fulfill your own fantasies.
When I think of books that have fulfilled all of this for me, the following immediately come to mind. But, let me add this disclaimer. They by no means even dent the list!
Here we go:
Wicked Burn by Beth Kery
This book is hot and heavy from about page 10. Might even be a little earlier… Heehee! Vic and Niall, who are temporary neighbors, meet when Niall is fending off an over-amorous date. Vic shows up, intimidates the creep then invites her in for a drink. From there, it’s just…wow. The sex scenes are amazing! It’s Beth Kery, so that’s a given. But the emotion and darkness that touches each of them translate into the scenes even as it colors their interaction, chemistry and the story. Wicked Burn isn’t just one of the hottest books I’ve read, it’s one of the best, period.
Breaking Him by Sherilee Gray
I guess I should recuse myself from this pick, because there isn’t a book Sherilee Gray has written that I haven’t loved. She’s an auto-buy for me. And the reasons why make Breaking Him one of my top sexy books. First off, virgin hero. Yaahs! Elijah, more or less feared and ostracized by the town, works on Abigail’s ranch. Her late father hired him when everyone else shied away from him. But Abigail has always been drawn to his quiet, intense strength. Elijah has a dark past but that doesn’t prevent Abigail from seeing the man and his goodness. And when they both give in to the desire between them, it’s explosive. It’s everything combustible, dirty, taboo, lustful and tender…and healing…and oh so, romantic. Sigh.
Asking for Trouble, Line of Duty #4 by Tessa Bailey
Of all the books Tessa Bailey has written, Asking for Trouble comes to mind simply because it was my first introduction to her. And this one book made me a die-hard fan. Brent and Hayden are from different worlds. He’s a blue-collar cop, and she’s a blue-blood, wealthy socialite. They are in each other’s stratosphere because their best friends fell in love. And the sniping back and forth is just a form of foreplay. And it’s HAWT foreplay. A good reason these scenes are so memorable is because of the dirty-talking hero. Good Lawd, no one does a dirty talker like Tessa Bailey. It’s not cheesy or eye-rolling as some can be. It’s perfection, and only adds to the sizzling chemistry that makes Brent and Hayden one of my favorite couples.
Uncivilized by Sawyer Bennett
My introduction to Sawyer Bennett was her Carolina Cold Fury Hockey series. I fell in love with the hockey series so when Uncivilized came out, it was kind of a no-brainer to pick it up. And OMG, have you seen the cover? It screams domination. It’s a Tarzan retelling, and the first—and only one—I’d ever read. And what could’ve went sooo wrong was sooo incredibly right. Zach emerges from the only world he’s ever known as a native in the rainforest to the modern world under duress, and Moira is tasked with helping him acclimate. She may be the teacher in educating him about the modern world, but he is the teacher in all things sexual. He is controlling, raw, wild, dominant and uninhibited. But this relationship turns into something so beautiful and pure that it just rips your heart out of your chest and never gives it back. Huh. Time for a reread. 😊
The Master by Kresley Cole
I’m a die-hard Kresley Cole fan. I’ve been reading her Immortals After Dark series for years, and her books are funny, imaginative, thrilling and sexy. I hadn’t read her contemporary romances before, but I was on my way to a doctor’s appointment with no book, and I couldn’t go there without one. So I saw The Master and snapped it up. I mean, it’s Kresley Cole. I sat in the doctor’s office and almost missed my appointment because I was so engrossed in the book. It had everything I expected from a Kresley Cole book: the snappy dialogue and snorting-out-loud humor, creative and unique world-building. But the sex? Whew boy. I wasn’t prepared. It. Was. HAWT! I’m sweating just thinking about it now. Catarina is so desperate for money to remain on the run and save her life that she decides to give escorting a try. She just never expected her first client to be this gorgeous, cold Russian with a predilection for bondage and No. Touching. But Catarina does away with all his preconceived wants and perceptions and flips his world upside down with her feisty attitude and stunning, uninhibited sexuality and need—of him. For anyone who loves sizzling, hotter-than-hell books with the added bonus of watching a man melt for the woman of his heart, this is a must read.
So, I’ve told me your top picks! It’s your turn to tell me yours!
