Will the woman he can’t resist be his downfall? Find out, only from USA TODAY bestselling author Robin Covington!
With TAKING ON THE BILLIONAIRE, bestselling author Robin Covington makes her stunning debut under the Harlequin Desire imprint. The book is the first in the author’s REDHAWK REUNION series and features tech billionaire Adam Redhawk and private eye Tess Lynch. These two will face many obstacles to get what they want, including secrets, lies, intoxicating desire, and even an unexpected pregnancy.
A fun read, with a lot of hidden layers and twists. The main characters, Adam and Tess, were pretty interesting, too, both in terms of career and in personality. They share in a protectiveness toward their loved ones, but also an inner complexity that makes them difficult to fully understand. And they have layers upon layers upon layers. Which makes them unpredictable and fascinating to read.
One thing I really enjoyed about this book was the romance and the chemistry between the characters. They have two different agendas when it comes to working together. But outside of that agenda, they mesh really well together. And they are there for each other in the right ways. Though it isn’t always easy for them, and it complicates their desire for a temporary “no strings” relationship.
Another thing I enjoyed was the inclusion of Cherokee culture. In my hometown in Oklahoma, Native American culture runs deep. It’s something taught in school. And you can find evidence of it all over town, including in museums with memorabilia from the five civilized tribes. But more than that, I have some Cherokee blood running through my veins, and that made this book–and makes this series–extra special to me. I was raised to believe in the type of omens Adam discusses in parts of this book. And though I’m far from a child, and I wasn’t raised without my parents and siblings, I could see what made Adam who he is and how he came to view the world around him.
“I’m not asking for us to go steady or to even change our Facebook status. I just thought we could have a meal at a restaurant before we do wicked things to each other. “
As children, Adam Redhawk and his two siblings ended up in the foster care system, all three of them tossed into different homes, in different states. Adam vowed he would one day reunite with his two siblings, and thanks to private eye Tess Lynch, he is finally close to achieving that goal. Except he needs to find out who is trying to sabotage his company and his soon-to-launch tech app first.
Tess Lynch is equal parts badass and sexy siren. Like Adam, she also had an unconventional childhood, helping to raise her younger sister and being there for her father through his troubles. In fact, it is these troubles that most lead her to want to help Adam. Because that gets her one step closer to her goal of destroying the man who ruined her father’s life.
Taking on the Billionaire is a great read with two highly memorable characters, and is a truly wonderful start to what promises to be a fun new Harlequin Desires series. So if you’re looking for something to read this weekend and haven’t yet checked out this December release, I highly recommend doing so. It’s well-written and a great introduction to a brand new series (and new Harlequin Desire author!).
