Book Summary

Dr. Daniel LeDeux and pilot Aaron LeDeux travel to the swampy bayous of Louisiana, where they discover a long-lost family. The usually stoic Daniel, a burned-out pediatric oncologist, is especially startled by the interfering LeDeux matriarch, Tante Lulu, bless her crazy heart, who wastes no time in setting him up with local rich girl Samantha Starr.

Scarred by a nasty divorce from a philandering New Orleans physician, Samantha has sworn off men, especially doctors. When Samantha’s step-brother gets into serious trouble, she must ask Daniel for help. But Samantha faces even more trouble when the handsome doctor casts his smoldering Cajun eyes her way.

The steamy heat of the bayou, along with the wacky matchmaking efforts of Tante Lulu, a herd of animal rescue rejects, including a depressed pot belly pig, and some world-class sexual fantasies create enough heat and humor to make both Daniel and Samantha realize that love and laughter can mend even the most broken heart.

My Thoughts

One thing I enjoy about Sandra Hill, that I only discovered upon first finding her work last year, is that her stories are really entertaining and fun. A little quirky, a little zany, but always fun. The characters (particularly the side characters) almost always have a little something out there about them, something fun that makes them a little crazy to read about but at the same time fascinating to get to know on the page. There is also a seriousness to the scenes and characters and overall story that make it that much more intriguing as a reader, because even as fun as it is, there is also serious underlying issues at its core, and that is such a fascinating combination to discover in these books.

In The Cajun Doctor,  Dr. Daniel LeDeux is  still reeling from a few personal and professional tragedies while wealthy local, Samantha Starr, is still reeling from her recent (and nasty) divorce to a cheating New Orleans physician. As you can imagine, Samantha wants next to nothing to do with Daniel LeDeux, only it turns out, she needs his help with her stepbrother, among other things.

I really enjoyed Daniel and Samantha together, and the journey they went on in this story. The scenes flowed well and were easy to read. There was lots of humor and fun that mixed well with the threat of danger and the growing attraction and romantic relationship of the characters. I really liked this book a lot. It was a fun read that I didn’t want to end.
