RESCUE ME
Cedar Ridge, Colorado, is famous for crisp mountain air, clear blue skies, and pine-scented breezes. And it’s the last place Lily Danville wants to be. But she needs a job, and there’s an opening at the hottest resort in her hometown. What has her concerned is the other hot property in Cedar Ridge: Aidan Kincaid-firefighter, rescue worker, and heartbreaker. She never could resist that devastating smile . . .
The Kincaid brothers are as rough and rugged as the Rocky Mountains they call home. Aidan has always done things his own way, by his own rules. And never has he regretted anything more than letting Lily walk out of his life ten years ago. If anyone has ever been in need of rescuing, she has. What she needs more than anything are long hikes, slow dances, and sizzling kisses. But that can only happen if he can get her to give Cedar Ridge-and this bad boy-a second chance . . .
“Fall in love with Jill Shalvis! She’s my go-to read for humor and heart.”

Second Chance Summer is the first book in the Cedar Ridge series by Jill Shalvis for Grand Central Publishing’s Forever imprint. In the book, an apprehensive, disillusioned Lily Danville has come back to her hometown for a temporary job and winds up facing her past, which includes gorgeous, heartbreaking firefighter and search and rescue member, Aidan Kincaid.
When the story opens, the heroine, Lily, is a bit of a mess, complete with Cheetos stained hands, and she’s desperate enough for a job that she’s come back to work one in Cedar Ridge, the town where she lost so much. And from the very first moment Lily appears, there’s a question about how well this homecoming will go, and whether or not she’ll be able to make it in the town she’d wanted nothing more than to never come back to again.
Aidan is a lot more put together at the start of this book, but Lily being back in town definitely throws him because he wasn’t expecting it. And while he planned not to let himself get wrapped up in her again, that’s exactly what happens. He’s drawn to her, the same as he was ten years ago, and though they’re both changed by their life experiences over the years, the same wicked, fire-hot chemistry still burns between them.
I totally loved Aidan and Lily. There’s very much a sense of lost and unfinished love between them, which is why the title of this book fits its story so well. Because it is a second chance reunion romance, and if anyone deserves a second chance at love it is these two characters. Grief, life, and doubts came between them in the past, but now, those same things are effectively drawing and pushing them together, and allowing them to see what they could have, if given the chance, if brave enough to fight for what they both want so badly to happen.
Jill Shalvis is one of my all time favorite authors and her fabulous writing, coupled with her amazing, funny, realistic, and deep characterizations, always make for a sizzling, sexy, entertaining, and unforgettable read. Second Chance Summer is all that and more, with two complex lead characters who are easy to like and relate to, and a cast of secondary characters that will only further help readers fall in love with the town of Cedar Ridge…and its citizens.
