She’s a challenge he can’t afford to lose…

Navy SEAL Steven Thomas has only ever been able to count on three things: waking up in the morning, going to sleep sometime during the night, and Lauren Brixton. She’s been his best friend since grade school, and what they have is the only relationship he’s managed not to ruin.

Until one drunken night puts that all in jeopardy.

Lauren’s watched Steven flit from one-night stand to one-night stand, seemingly not interested in something more. So when the long-ignored attraction between the two of them blows up in their faces, she does the only thing she can—she pretends she doesn’t want him. But all’s fair in love and war, and Steven’s not about to lose the only person in his life who matters…

Say You’re Mine, book five in author Diane Albert’s Shilling Agency series, is a compelling, well-written read with a cast of fantastic characters and two terrific lead characters that immediately pulled me into the story, and into their plight. I will freely admit, I’m a sucker for a best friends to lovers story. I love the idea of finally having one’s eyes opened to something that’s been in front of them all along, and that’s what this story is about. A bitter, broken, broody man finally opening his eyes to the loyal, honest woman in front of him, the woman who’s been there for him through everything, all his disappointments and hurts, his bad decisions and flaws. They know each other so well, but there are parts in each of them they don’t yet know at all.

I have to say, this is my first read in the Shilling Agency series and I have no idea why. I loved this book so much. The writing is fantastic, the story is entertaining and engaging, and the characters are flat out fun to read. The hero, Navy SEAL Steven Thomas, is an emotionally scarred man by day, but at night, he’s a dirty-talker.  The kind of dirty-talker I love to read about in romance novels because he’s strong and proud and has a need for control. He clearly has no idea how to cope with what he’s been through in his life and he desperately needs someone to show him the way because what he’s been doing to get by—drinking, sleeping with women, avoiding getting romantically close—isn’t working for him anymore. He’s a man in need of a change, and his best friend, Lauren Brixton, provides that change in an effort to pull him out of the darkness in his past.

“She was his one constant, in a world full of chaos.”

Steven Thomas

Chock-full of emotion and packed with heat and humor, Say You’re Mine is a fantastic romance read by a talented and engaging storyteller. It’s a book that contemporary romance readers—and especially Entangled Brazen fans—won’t want to miss. I know I loved it!
