BOOK REVIEW

 

Just One Wish by Carly Phillips is a bonus novella, set in the author’s Kingston Family series. It is book #4.5, for those who wish to know where exactly it fits into the series as a whole. In the interest of full disclosure, I must admit that I have not yet read the other books in this particular series, so I cannot comment on how much this novella intersects with any other book published thus far. But I do know this one can be read and enjoyed as a standalone romance read, so if you are like me, please know that this novella can stand as an introduction to the series.

I love a good reunion romance, and this one was really sweet. Alex and Tara were high school sweethearts who went their separate ways when their individual dreams took them down different paths. But when Alex realizes Tara now lives in the same vicinity as him, living her dream as a Vet, he can’t help but make plans to see her, despite the years that have passed.

Tara craves stability and family, but she fears abandonment and with Alex living the life of a rockstar who travels far and wide for work, she is afraid to give her heart to him again. Alex is lonely, having already lived his life on the road. He understands Tara’s fears, but he is resolved to show her that he can be the man she needs and wants.

This was a short, engaging romance with a lot of heart. The characters immediately pulled me in and got me invested in their story. It was well-written, as all Carly Phillips novels are, and made me want to read the rest of the books in the series. It’s been a while since I read this author, but I all too quickly remembered why she’s been among my favorites for years. She writes some of the best contemporary romance around, and this novella was a fitting example of that.

All around great read. Highly recommend if you’re looking for something short and guaranteed to entertain and satisfy.
