BOOK REVIEW

This was my first read for 2023 and I have to say, I am so glad that I decided to read it first. Not only did Falling for His Fake Girlfriend have a neurodiverse heroine but it also had a bookish hero that used his love of reading to better understand the heroine and to learn how to help make things easier for her when he could. It wasn’t so he could “save” her, but to meet her where she is so that she could enjoy the time they spent together and not feel anxious or out of control.

Molly Cyrs has lived with impulsivity and ADHD all her life and she’s developed a system that helps her to focus and feel more in control of things. But her parents don’t fully grasp how difficult things are for her and their comments often leave her feeling like she is less than because of her struggle to make sense of things on her own terms.

Callan Avery is the new guy in town, a sexy bookish librarian who some citizens feel shouldn’t be in charge of the library due to his single status. This leads Callan to develop a bit of nervousness about his job and it’s stability and leads his neighbor Molly to offer to be his fake girlfriend in order to help speed his transition and acceptance in town. It doesn’t expect it to work…until it does.

Molly was such a great heroine. Not only was she relatable but she was just the right amount of spontaneous, too. And she was the perfect person to help Callan because she made him see things in a different light, things including her.

Callan was a truly amazing hero. I loved how quickly he seemed to see and understand Molly, even when those who’ve known her for years still don’t quite grasp who she is or how she thinks. Even more, I loved how much he wanted to understand her, and to help her see how wonderful she really is.

Falling for His Fake Girlfriend was a warm-hearted romance filled with a sense of community, a love of books, and an invaluable insight into the diverse ways people think and communicate. This book had a ‘meet people where they are’ aspect and Molly and Callan proved to be the perfect story people bring that to light. They were sweet, loving, and they cared so much about people and their relationships to them, even when they’ve been disappointed or hurt by the circumstances that surrounded them.

This book ran the gamut of emotions. Sweet, serious, humorous, loving, and everything in between. And with its themes of family, friendship, individuality, understanding, and acceptance, it proved to be the perfect read to start off a brand new year. I cannot recommend reading it enough.

This book is part of a series but it can be read and enjoyed as a standalone read.

Was she too much…or his perfect match?

Over-the-top Molly Cyrs hardly seems a match for bookish Callan Avery. But when Molly suggests they pose as a couple to assuage Stonefield’s anxiety about its new male librarian, his pretend paramour is all Callan can think about. Callan’s looking for a family, though, and kids aren’t in Molly’s story. Unless he can convince Molly that she’s not “too much” …and that to him, she’s just enough!

About Shannon Stacey

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Shannon Stacey lives with her husband and two sons in New England, where her two favorite activities are writing stories of happily ever after and riding her four-wheeler. From May to November, the Stacey family spends their weekends on their ATVs, making loads of muddy laundry to keep Shannon busy when she’s not at her computer. She prefers writing to laundry, however, and considers herself lucky she got to be an author when she grew up.
