Broody Brit by Naima Simone ~ Deanna’s Review

BROODY BRIT

A steamy new tale in Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward’s Cocky Hero Club World

BROODY BRIT takes place in the British Bedmate world first created by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward. Though the story can be read and thoroughly enjoyed as a standalone book, it does feature a couple of characters from British Bedmate. So if you’ve read that book, you’ll likely recognize some names in this. If you haven’t read that book, no worries, it won’t take away from the enjoyment of BROODY BRIT in the slightest.

Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward are excited to bring you the Cocky Hero Club: original works from various authors inspired by Keeland and Ward’s New York Times bestselling Cocky Bastard series.

I received an advanced reading copy (ARC) of this book from the publisher. The receipt of this ARC did not influence my choice to review the book on this site. It also did not influence how I felt about the book or its characters, storyline, and overall feel. The opinions expressed in this review are my own. As such, they only deal with what is written on the pages of the book and how what is written and otherwise presented made me feel during and after my reading of the book. Aside from the ARC, I also purchased this book through Amazon on release day.

When a plumbing mishap temporarily causes Zenobia Hester to move in with her married best friends and watch the place while they are away on a vacation, the last thing she expects is to find herself sharing the place with a brooding British hottie. Yet, it happens, and what’s more, Zenobia wants to climb Axel Wright like a tree every time she sees him.

And that’s a problem, since Zenobia wants nothing to do with men at the moment.

“Tell me about your shitty day.”

Broody Brit

As the situational setup suggests, Zenobia is having a bit of a rough go of things when she first meets Axel, who is only in town to prepare for his upcoming art show. Axel is a bit abrasive, and not the most talkative of men, but Zenobia can’t deny wanting him anyway. However, she’d never allow herself to have him. Falling for another man who has no intention of sticking around is not on her current to-do-list. Yet, the more time she spends with Axel, the more Zenobia begins to see the broody Brit for who he really is, and she’s all the more intrigued for it.

As one of the ever-beloved troubled and wounded heroes, Axel will quickly grab a reader’s heart, though they may not know why at first. His brusque demeanor has served him well as he tries to hold himself at a distance from others, but unlike most people, Zenobia sees something more in him. And try as he might not to, Axel wants to know more about her, too. They firmly believe they have no chance for anything long-term, but they have a connection, and Axel doesn’t connect with anyone.

“Watching you take my cock like a good, greedy little girl is going to unman me, pet.”

This was a fantastic read. Smoking hot, of course, but also quite emotional in places. Readers will fall in love with these characters so much, they won’t be able to stop from losing themselves right alongside the POV character, feeling much more than they expected to feel when the story first began.

I laughed, I cried, I loved.

So, so good.

5 out of 5 stars STARS

Dear Axel,

It is incredibly stupid to write this text while I’m drunk. But what’s the saying? No gain, no pain. Or, no pain, no shame… Whatever. You know what I mean. And let’s face it. There’s no way I would be doing this if I was stone-cold sober. But since I’m plastered? To hell with it.

I want you.

I know. Crazy, right? Not only am I your temporary roommate but I’m a chatty nurse from Providence with an impeccable bedside manner and secrets. You’re a broody, commitment-phobe sculptor from England who communicates in grunts and single syllables. Not to mention, you’re returning home in several weeks. And yet, from the moment you dragged me for being a Swiftie, I’ve wanted to climb you like my personal jungle gym.

There’s no future for us. I’m not even sure I like you half the time. But that doesn’t stop me from hungering for those same hands that bend and shape metal to bend and shape me. So in all my drunken glory, I guess what I’m trying to say is if you want me, I’m yours. For the next few weeks until you return across the pond and we resume our lives as before. No strings, No demands, No regrets.

So meet me in the kitchen where all this started.

Or don’t.

It’s your decision.

Not that it matters. It’s not like I’m going to do something monumentally dumb and hit send on this text.

Broody Brit is a roommates/opposites attract/interracial romance inspired by British Bedmate.
