A Gentleman Never Tells is such a fantastic novella Well-written and perfect for the time period, I could picture each and every scene in my head. And not only did I love author Eloisa James’ visceral writing style, I also loved the two main characters, Lizzy and Oliver.
Part of this novella reminded me a little bit of Pride and Prejudice, in particular, the movie with Keira Knightly and Richard Armitage. But it wasn’t in storyline or events so much as the overall personality of the characters. The little glimpses of each character’s individuality made me love this book, and immediately identify with its characters because of its reminders of one of my favorite movies.
After her late husband humiliated her by dying in his mistress’s bed, Lizzy vowed to never marry again. Then she meets Oliver and realizes he sees her in a way no one else ever has before. She tries to keep things proper between them, but Oliver is not quite the gentleman he wanted to prove that he could be.
Fun, entertaining, and engaging, A Gentleman Never Tells is the perfect, quick-read, historical romance novella. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and it’s characters, and cannot wait to read the other books in this series.
