BOOK REVIEW

Arizona King is an angry, broken woman, and she does her absolute best to push people away. Especially those that care about her. She wasn’t always that way, of course, but circumstances and a sudden tragedy hardened her. Made her pull away from everyone. Even herself.

Micah Stone is a man who has loved and lost and found hope even in the most trying of times. He left Four Corners behind over a decade ago, never intending to return. Yet his own son leads him back and then he comes face to face with the woman he never forgot. The woman who appears to hate him.

Though Her Wayward Cowboy was a short read, it was a fun one. Maybe not my favorite of Yates’ work in this particular series, but I enjoyed it, and I liked the characters a lot.

Arizona was a bit of a hard person to relate to, especially at first, but then Micah returns, and we get to see another side to her. A side that she doesn’t share with anyone else. I liked how open he was with her, and how he let her tell him her story in own time, her own way. That was a great moment for them and it proved why they belonged together.

I would have liked to have seen this novella be a longer story because I think the characters could’ve benefited from more time. Not that they weren’t great here, because they were, but there is also a sense that there is a lot more to them than what we got to see here, and that makes me a little bummed that we missed out on all the tension that could’ve come with a longer book (Because nobody does romantic tension like Maisey Yates!) That said, I enjoyed this novella a lot and I am looking forward to the next Four Corners book. I’m also secretly hoping we get to see more of Arizona and Micah in the future, because like I said, I do want more from them.

For thirteen years, Arizona King has tried to forget Micah Stone, the man who broke her heart. She was eighteen the night they confessed their feelings for each other. The next morning, he was gone. Maybe she was too young, too inexperienced—after all, he was twelve years older and fresh out of a serious relationship. Arizona vowed to never be so vulnerable again. But that promise proves hard to keep when Micah suddenly returns to Four Corners Ranch, looking for his son…

Soon it becomes clear those feelings never burned out for either of them. Still, after all this time, Arizona’s carrying more scars than she lets on… Should she give this headstrong cowboy a second chance—or will he turn tail once more and leave for good?
