Justin Timberlake gets “Filthy” for new music release
In the first release from his long-awaited upcoming Man of the Woods album, Justin Timberlake gets “Filthy”. He also takes an unexpected turn by releasing a more futuristic sounding pop song. “Filthy” is surprising for its innovation. And a stark contrast to the type of music teased in Timberlake’s Man of the Woods trailer earlier in the week.
Written by Timberlake, Timbaland, Danja, James Fauntleroy and Lawrence Dopson,”Filthy” takes an almost opposite stance to the raw, earthy vibe from his album’s teaser. Part Prince, part Robin Thicke, and thoroughly Timberlake, “Filthy” is a mix of past, present, and future.
And maybe that’s the point.
In the Man of the Woods teaser, Timberlake described his new LP as the most personal record he’s ever done. If that’s the case, the talented artist will likely pay tribute to everything that has made and influenced him.
Should we expect a healthy mix of musical sounds and styles on Timberlake’s Man of the Woods?
All signs point to that being the case.
Which should make longtime fans of Timberlake very happy.

Vocally, Timberlake sounds most impressive on “Filthy”, keeping to the wide vocal range for which he’s most known. The song isn’t as filthy as one might expect given the title, but it’s catchy, and somehow exactly what I would expect from this particular artist. With a mix of Pop, R & B, and Futuristic Post-Apocalyptic sounds, “Filthy” becomes a true banger, and a tune worthy of several repeat listens.
There is much to love in this new song, to be sure. Heavy breathing, roaring tigers, futuristic beats, fantastic harmonies, spoken word, a ton of musical and vocal risks, and so, so much more. It is a song that on first listen may not be what one expects. But on second, third, and fourth plays? The song becomes an amazing tune with a sound that begs its listeners to replay it. If for no other reason than to catch all the things they may have missed the first and second and third go-rounds.
